Sermon slides from January 19

By: Pastor Dave | January 23, 2025 | ,

The problem? People participating in our worship experiences cannot see any slides I share during the message. The solution? Well, the best solution is purchase and install new video equipment that can capture more of the sanctuary. But unless and until a generous donor steps up to make that happen—Is that person you? It could be you! Reach out to me, if so!—we need an alternative solution. The alternative solution? I’m experimenting with adding a post here that contains the slides. These are the ones from last week. The goal from now on is to post these before our worship experience begins on Sunday mornings. Stay tuned to see if I can keep up that schedule!

The first slide were this quote from The Rev. Dr. Wilda Gafney:
As we think about that passage from Isaiah 62, notice, “The message from the Divine is addressed to a feminine subject. That message from the Divine is: Postdestruction Jerusalem will be rejoiced over as though she were a virgin bride; she, her land, will be married. Remember, these metaphors of marriage are drawn from the experiences of women. This text offers a way to talk about life after trauma, including rape and other dehumanizing acts. Jerusalem’s vindication can be read as the vanquishing of shame.”

“In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” —The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” —The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

That’s all from last week. See if it helps when you watch the sermon.
