Sermon slides for Feb. 9–Homegrown Resistance
By: Pastor Dave | February 9, 2025 | Good Trouble, sermon, sermon slides
Welcome to week 1 of our new sermon series, Good Trouble! Here are the slides shared during the sermon. These aren’t visible to our online participants due to deficiencies in our camera technology. So we’re experimenting with offering them here on our blog. Leave a comment to let us know how much (or how little) it helps.

Watch famous 80’s comedy spoof, “Airplane!” or watch 50’s disaster movie no one’s ever heard of “Zero Hour!” (Turns out, Zero Hour is the movie Airplane is mostly lampooning!)

Read history textbook or a graphic novel about an important historical event written by a significant participant in that event? Like “March” by John Lewis?

Listen to a Kevin Hart comedy special or listen to the podcast “Boring Books for Bedtime”?

Write down the names of those you, like Shiphrah, Puah, and Moses’ sister, commit to protecting. Specific names or targeted groups of people; long or short list; it just needs to be a true commitment for you.
“it is our turn to carry the world” by adrienne maree brown
we are each other’s safety
right now, and every day
decide who you will protect
yourself, your own and who else
it’s time to cover all that we love
land, creature, place, person
intertwine your roots with mine
in this way our lives become miracles…
…we choose our freedom
we keep each other’s souls intact
safer than any cage of empire
we know something better is coming
we are each other’s safety
we see each other’s freest selves
we will hold on tight, in public, in private
over and underground
and we will never let go
we will never let go
we will never let go
we will never let go

Memorize the list on your paper. When you have it in your tongue and bones, bury it into dirt you love so the earth holds this commitment with you, with us.
