It’s the changing of the seasons
By: Pastor Dave | February 27, 2025 | Ash Wednesday, Discipleship, Lent, Pastoral Letter
It has been said forewarned is fair-warned. Well, we are less than a week until the church season of Lent. The season starts with Ash Wednesday, March 5th. We gather for worship that day at 7:00pm. Our youth are in the midst of planning that worship experience…so it may be unlike other Ash Wednesday services you’ve attended.
May I suggest we all begin planning our Lenten practices now? What are those Lenten practices? Actually, the same as the discipleship practices to which we’ve committed: opening, praying, gathering, serving, inviting, and giving. Some examples:
— Opening yourself up to try something different this Lent.
— Praying through the Lent Devotionals that will be available at no cost. They include prayers, poems, scripture, artwork, commentary, and questions to consider.
— Gathering in small groups to study, wonder, question, and reflect. Lent Study groups will be offered at least Monday evenings on Zoom, Tuesdays at noon in person, Thursday evenings in person, and likely more. Gathering in these small groups allows us to know each other and be known by each other; to care for each other and be cared for by each other. Gathering in small groups is the best way we know to grow in our faith in Jesus.
— Commit now to fully experiencing Holy Week by gathering for worship services on Palm Sunday (April 13th), Maundy Thursday (April 17th), Good Friday (April 18th), Holy Saturday (April 19th), and Easter Sunday (April 20th).
— Serving neighbors in need by donating food or time to our Helping Hands Food Pantry.
— Who among your friends or family need the good news of Jesus and the love and care of our wonderful found family of faith? Inviting them to a worship service or a study or a volunteer opportunity could be exactly what they need.
— We will collect a special Easter offering and we will be giving the first 10% (aka a tithe) of that offering to the Good Samaritan Fund. The Good Samaritan Fund is for church members and community members alike who need some help making ends meet. We’ve had an increase in requests for help and this fund is nearly depleted. 100% of our Good Samaritan Fund goes directly to neighbors in need.
