EMBODY HOPE by WORKING to END HUNGER
By: Pastor Dave | May 6, 2025 | Discipleship, Good Trouble, Holy Spirit, Offering of Letters
How many hungry people in our country, in our world, is too many? One hungry person is too many, right? Well…
1 in 10 people around the world go to bed hungry each night.
1 in 5 children are at risk of hunger here in the USA.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Hunger is preventable. The world produces enough food for all; we just need the political will to distribute that food justly. One way we feed more people and increase justice in the world—in other words, one way we further God’s Kin-dom in the world— is through our Offering of Letters this Sunday, May 11th.
What is an Offering of Letters?
Partnering with Bread for the World, we write letters and emails to our members of Congress asking them to create and fund policies and programs that end hunger. That’s really what Offering of Letters is all about: Using our voice, influence, and power to help as many people as possible. Our Offering of Letters ensures our elected leaders hear our voice and know what matters to us as followers of God in the Way of Jesus.
What’s this year’s campaign focus?
This year we are calling on Congress to protect and strengthen nutrition programs that help children reach their full potential. Including global nutrition programs and the domestic program, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (aka WIC).
We’re not alone in this!
Our siblings in Christ all over the state and the country are also conducting an Offering of Letters this spring. By the time we are all finished, tens of thousands of letters will be sent. Over and over, we’ve seen God use these letters to change hearts and minds. Over and over, we’ve seen God use our letters to feed hungry neighbors and lift them out of poverty. Praise God, the Fount of Justice, for that!
Who is Bread for the World and why do we partner with them?
Bread for the World is a non-partisan Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Bread’s mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
We partner with them because Bread for the World helps us be the hands, feet, and voice of Christ in the world.
