Cold Truths Need Good News

By: Pastor Dave | August 14, 2025 | , ,

Dear Minooka UMC Found Family,

As the popular song by Shaboozey suggests, 2025 has us “Sittin’ here, sippin’ on cold truth; I need some good news.” With the heresy of Christian Nationalism, childhood hunger, and violence against the LGBTQ+ community all currently on the rise in our country (to name just a few cold truths), it seems to me we all really need some good news. So let’s take a moment to recap some of the good news we’ve recently received at MUMC:

Remember the Special Church Conference we held back in January? At that time we unanimously voted to empower the Board of Trustees to sell the parsonage. After plenty of hard work with our realtor and many showings, we are under contract with a buyer! Of course, the business isn’t complete until we reach closing, but…we’re confidently hopeful. And our Prayer Team continues to pray for the process.

As you might have seen, the base for our new electronic sign is in! You already can’t miss it when you drive by. The sign itself is still being constructed, but it is in process and is scheduled to be ready and installed later this year. I can’t wait to share our messages with the world using this toy tool! (I totally meant tool!)

Our new video camera is installed…but we’ve run into some snafus getting the audio to play nice with camera. Technology: super helpful when it works right; and one of the most frustrating things on the planet when it doesn’t! So that project is underway, though still in process. But we expect to have it functioning properly by the end of the month.

You already know our bike path is in, looks super, and is being used by our neighbors. Now, our North Wing is open! Sunday School meets in the back (west) half of the room; post-worship hang out time meets in the front (east) half of the room. The kitchen isn’t fully operational yet, but that project is also in process.

The Holy Spirit is undeniably at work here at MUMC and doing as She does: moving in, through, with, around, (and when necessary, despite) us! I’m so very grateful for all of you doing so much behind the scenes to turn all these dreams into reality.
